Smart Hierarchy panel always expanded in all issues – how to configure or restrict per project?

Frank Lohfeld May 22, 2025

Hi Community,

we’re using Jira Data Center and recently added the Smart Hierarchy plugin.

However, I’ve noticed that:

  • it automatically shows up in every project,

  • it appears in every issue view,

  • and it is always expanded by default.

I couldn't find any settings in the app to make it collapsed by default or to exclude it from specific projects altogether.

Has anyone found a solution or workaround for this?

Would it be possible to manage this via ScriptRunner, e.g., hiding or fold the panel under certain conditions?

Any ideas or experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot,
Frank

Hi Frank,

I'm Oleksandra from the TitanApps team. It's great to hear you’ve given the Smart Hierarchy add-on a try!

You're absolutely right: by default, the Smart Hierarchy panel is visible on all issue views and is expanded by default. We currently don't offer native settings to collapse it or restrict its visibility, but you can absolutely control it using ScriptRunner's UI Fragment feature.

This allows you to conditionally hide the Smart Hierarchy panel based on issue type, project, user role, and more. You can check our documentation here - Hide Smart Hierarchy on Issue View Using ScriptRunner.

And if you ever run into questions or need help with setup, feel free to contact our support team - we’re happy to help!

If Smart Hierarchy has been useful to your team, we'd really appreciate it if you could leave a quick review on the Atlassian Marketplace - it helps others discover the app and helps us continue improving it😊

@Frank Lohfeld

Since you have ScriptRunner please check the Script Fragment it may have the plugin features to hide from the UI.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Best,

Fadoua
