I noted that sometimes text effects are applied inconsistently when editing comment in JIRA server slightly out of date (73.6).
For example:
asterisk text asterisk
results in bold being applied dynamically to "text" where as:
"asterisk" some text "asterisk"
doesn't get bold applied at edit time, but it is applied when you hit save, meaning what you typed is not what you get (sigh).
I hit this recording an issue with a wildcard domain so I had "asterisk.example.com" blah blah. "asterisk.example.com", and it loses the asterisks and applies various fragmented bold attributes to the text sample, and there is no view to let me clean up the mess either.
It also did some sort of quote substitution, and thus made a complete pigs ear out of original text.
I appreciate I can disable it manually using "noformat", but I had no idea what I was typing was going to trigger this.
Are there options to disable these text effects, life is too short to second guess decisions to make text complicated, we need a just leave my text as I typed it option because messing about with it just increases the risk of miscommunication.
Also can you make it easy to remove applied styles like "preformatted", it seems once applied it isn't possible to remove it reliably.
I look forward to a better text editor, I can recommend input type of textarea, simple, reliable predictable.
