Sprint active permission /Scrum Master privilages ?

Sridhar Gandla September 6, 2018

Couple of questions:

1)  In JIRA where can I find this :  " I have scrum master privileges?"   Is there any option under my profile or some where ?   .. I totally understand that, not having the manage Sprint permissions then I can't make Sprints active Sprint/Close. As this option is disabled to my co-employee Scrum Master is facing the problem.

2)  Having Sprint board admin access and not having a Sprint manage permissions I can't start Sprint  - please confirm.

3)  Having Sprint manage permissions but not having "Admin of the Sprint board" then can I able to close the Sprint - <My understanding : It can't be done >>  -  please confirm.

Hi @Sridhar Gandla

Let me answer your questions:

1)  In JIRA where can I find this :  " I have scrum master privileges?"   Is there any option under my profile or some where ?   .. I totally understand that, not having the manage Sprint permissions then I can't make Sprints active Sprint/Close. As this option is disabled to my co-employee Scrum Master is facing the problem.

A: The 'Manage Sprints' permission is a project permission, please follow the documentation linked here to better understand and let me know if you have any further questions about it, ok?

2)  Having Sprint board admin access and not having a Sprint manage permissions I can't start Sprint  - please confirm.

A: Correct. The board admin access will allow you to make changes about the board settings only. This is not related to the project permissions.

3)  Having Sprint manage permissions but not having "Admin of the Sprint board" then can I able to close the Sprint - <My understanding : It can't be done >>  -  please confirm.

A: To be able to start/close sprints, you need to have Manage sprints permission, this is not related to the board admin access. The same answer to your second questions applies here. The Board Administrators privilegies are just for board settings purposes ;)

Let me know if this makes sense to you for now!

Thank you for patiently replying to my question.

Continuation to question 1:    Can you show the difference on Screen Image /Picture of Scrum Master and Scrum Team member .   I understand having Manage Sprint permission then you can start/close the Sprint.

Is there any place like "My profile"  screen / or some screen will show that I have Scrum Master / What privileges are granted by Admin. Kindly do note that, I am not project admin access   ..so, I can't access to see project screen et all.

Hi @Sridhar Gandla

In this case, you'll need to contact your Jira Administrator, he/she is the only one who can help you with these permissions :)

As a Product Owner, I sometimes also serve as Scrum Master.  What permissions will I need for this?

On different context : Will you suggest, only Sprint manager permissions are required (Close Sprint /Start new Sprint) but I dont want provide" Project Admin permissions" ,"Administrtor" Permissons ?  I mean to say, Only Sprint managers permissions are needed also other lower Level permissons   are okay but not higher Level permissions. Please confirm.
