Status button of the Jira ticket has changed its position

Dear Support,

We've noticed that the Status button (used to move a ticket from Open to another state) has changed its position.

  • Previous position: Above the Details tab on the right side of the screen.

  • Current position: Below the Jira title on the left side of the screen.

Drawbacks of the current position:
You now have to scroll past all the comments to reach the Status button, which is inconvenient.

Is there any guidance on how to revert it to the previous layout?

I want to second this - the new position of the Status button is highly inconvenient.

Previously, it was easily accessible on the right-hand panel. Now, having it under the ticket title means we have to scroll down past all comments to change status, which is inefficient, especially for tickets with long discussions.

Please consider adding an option to customize or revert to the previous layout.

This just happened to us today! Why did they move it, and can we reset to the right side which doesn't move when we scroll down the page?

So apparently this change was announced in July 2025 - and many people complained both then and now. But they were ignored and the change has been rolled out without a way to revert.

Atlassian needs to start listening to its customers. They are making constant changes with no transparency on their plan and without consideration on the impact on their customers!

This seems like such an unnecessary change? Why would a ticket Status randomly be underneath the ticket Summary/Title vs in the Details with the rest of the context fields?

Or at least provide us the option to decide where we would like for it to live :)

If you are scrolling through a ticket, you can't quickly reference it on the side panel, but have to scroll all the way back up to see it, as it gets hidden with a scroll right away.

And everything with the UI is being shifted heavy on the left side of tickets and product now. There's no balance.

We experienced that forced update as well, an extremely poor decision.

First issue - scrolling
As others have mentioned, the typical workflow goes like this: you’re working on a ticket in the middle of the content, you leave a comment, then check or change the status. Previously, the panel was right there - always visible, always accessible. Now, u need to go up, some tickets have 3-6 scrolls of text, some 30+ comments you have to go thought to reach the status control.

Second issue - placement
For nearly 20 years, people have been accustomed to seeing it on the right. That consistency matters.

I understand the intention, minimizing movement for smaller tickets where most content is in the summary. But that approach fits lightweight tools like trello, or at worst, Team-managed projects. Jira Software, however, should not be compromised by these “one-size-fits-all” changes.

If you want to keep it, fine, but make it movable, so we can throw it back to the right 'tech' section of the ticket.

I just now received this update and, while I'm generally a huge fan of all the great work the Jira product team has been making, this change is HORRIBLE.  I keep my comments sorted from oldest to newest.  After I've reviewed all the comments, I'm ready to re-status my work item, and now I have to scroll ALL THE WAY back to the top of the ticket.  Status position should be static and not move as I scroll through the commentary.

I know there's a work item under consideration to allow status field to be positioned wherever the user wants, but until something like that (or the ability to make it a pinned field) is implemented, I wanted to voice my utter frustration with this user experience update (failure).

Seems like they don't use their own product. This change is so bad and not useful at all.

The same has happened to me, and it makes navigating and viewing tickets at a glance incredibly cumbersome.  I looked through account settings to try to turn this OFF, and GO BACK, and there is no setting to turn off this terrible change.  Please add a toggle for this new feature.

Please put the ticket status button back where it's been for years! Don't make improvements just for the sake of improvement. This is a bad example of UX design. Users have gotten used to it over the years, and now, when I automatically want to see the ticket status, it's not there

Why would you do this? I now have to SCROLL ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP of the ticket, sometimes 10-20 comments in order to change the status of a ticket. WHY?

Atlassian, please give us the option to put the status back above the right-side panel where it's been for 20 years. This isn't a good change.

Burying it between text makes it harder to find and like other users have mentioned, requires scrolling to see it if you're down in the comments or have a long list of context fields.

Dear Atlassian,

YOU HAVE TO ACT AND LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.

Why do you break what has worked for 20 years? It makes no sense to annoy your customers?

The Status button should be on the right side, where it has always been and where it is visible all the time, when scrolling.

Whoever forced this unto the customers should get replaced immediately!

This is such a obvious bad decission.

Fix this now!

Some of the users on our instance have the same issue with SOME work items. Reloading the page with Ctrl+F5 worked to have the button back above the details though.

Awfull change. The new position feel like it's "behind" the title. Invisible when this is the second most important information on the page.

Each member of my team hate this change !

I've just discovered the 'improvement' of the Status button being moved from the right hand panel to the 'body' of the work item.
As a tester, it used to be a simple action to change the status AND assignee in one go as I'd included 'assignee' in my pinned fields, so they both appeared at the top of the workitem, in generally the same location.

The repositioning of the status field to sit below the workitem heading is absolutely poor UX as you now have to scroll all the way back up to the top of the workitem and look on the opposite side from where you instinctively look for all the 'attributes' of the workitem.

If it's not possible to shift the "Status" field back to its original location, is it at least possible to make it a 'pin-able' field so it can be included in the 'My pinned fields' section.

For all the promotion Atlassian do about working to make their systems better, building community etc,  I'm really astonished the feedback on this from the community you work so hard to uphold has not been listened to.

+1 to all of this. At least give us the choice of having it back where it was.

Yes, please put the field back to its original position. Me as Jira admin for 2750+ users instance it is hard to explain such a step back in UI convenience.

Bad change. Status button is harder to find now. Please give us the ability to configure this so we can put it where it used to be.

I'm hoping they freeze the Summary, Status and Resolution and/or give an option to put status back.  I looked at Configure today, and Status shows up under Details section with no options to change it.

Absolutely agree. Summary, Status, and any ticket "tabs" that are present should be frozen and always visible so I can scroll through the details on a ticket while keeping that visible to my team.

I agree, this is very inconvenient, as is the rest of the new design. That does not improve the usage. Please stop introducing these unnecessary changes, or at least provide users with the option to customize them.

I've become wasting my time after Atlassian "enhancement" applied on my project account. I need to scroll lot of times per day just for the reason to check the Jira status, loosing my focus and being distracted from work item topic. Revert it back please or make it configurable
