Status category is Done but issue is Unresolved (not Cloud)

Sofiya Gubatska October 14, 2025

Hi!

For some reason, recently when moving a task to Done or Canceled, Jira no longer sets the Resolved flag.
I’m attaching some screenshots.

Because of this, all tasks with deadlines are now highlighted in red.

A bit of context: we’re using the standard Jira subscription, not the cloud version — the web one.

Has anyone come across this issue, and do you know how it can be fixed?
Thanks!

Hello @Sofiya Gubatska

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

I'm not sure what you mean by this:

"A bit of context: we’re using the standard Jira subscription, not the cloud version — the web one"

Jira Cloud is the software-as-a-service product offered by Atlassian where they host it and maintain the infrastructure. You can have a Free, Standard, Premium, or Enterprise subscription to that product. I'm not sure what you are trying to say with the statement that you use "the web one" but not "the cloud version".

Regardless, based on the screen image you presented you appear to be using Jira Cloud.

In what type of project/space are you seeing this behaviour? Get that information from the Type column on the View All Spaces page available under the Spaces menu.

In Team Managed projects the Resolution field will be set automatically when you transition to a status that is in the Done status category (has a green lozenge).

In Company Managed project setting the Resolution must be done either by showing the user a Transition screen where they are required to set the Resolution, or by setting it automatically as a Post Function in the Workflow. If you are not showing a screen to the user, then it is likely that the Post Function is missing from the workflow.

You will need to modify the workflow used in this project/space by the work item type to add the Post Function that sets the Resolution field, in that case.

Yes, sorry for the confusion about Jira Cloud - I’m still quite new to working with it, so I don’t always fully understand all the details :)

We’re using only Company-managed projects. The Resolution field used to work automatically before, and I didn’t have to do anything extra for that.
But later, maybe after some workflow changes, it stopped being set automatically.

I followed your link and saw step 4: “Open the post functions tab: In diagram mode, select Post functions in the properties panel to show the triggers configured for the transition.”

I’m sharing some screenshots of how it looks on my side, because unfortunately I’m not sure what to do next.Знімок екрана 2025-10-15 101713.pngЗнімок екрана 2025-10-15 101916.png

Hello @Sofiya Gubatska ,

In the rules you can choose "Update an issue field", then choose Resolution to be set to "Resolved" or the value which you need.

Regards,

Katja

@Katja Bing is correct.

The document link I provided describes the steps in the original Workflow Editor. The view you are seeing is the new Workflow Editor (to which all instances will be switched in early 2026 according to the documentation).

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/what-is-the-new-workflow-editor/

In the new workflow editor Conditions, Validators, and Post Functions are collected under the "Rules" section as Restrict Transition, Validate Details, and Perform Actions.

Click on the transition arrow pointing to the Done status.

That should open the Transition panel on the right.

Click the "+" button (1) next to Rules to get the pop-up where you can click on Perform Actions (2).

Use the Search field (3) to search for the Update an issue field action (4) and click the Select button at the bottom of the pop up.

In the next pop up choose the Resolution field, and the value to which you want to set it, then click the Add button at the bottom of the pop up.

Repeat the above steps for each Transition arrow that points to your Done/green statuses in each workflow for each issue type in the project where you are seeing this problem.

Similarly, click on each transition arrow that goes to not-"Done"/not-green statuses. Go through the same steps above, but instead of selecting a value for the Resolution field toggle on the Clear this field option.
