Story Points addition for DONE on top of sprint backlog - shows only right most column- 2 resolution

Sonal Agarwal March 9, 2022

I have added a new column and a new status - both called 'GO LIVE' - after Done column with Done status

I have set resolution in both statuses - Done of DONE column and Go Live of GO LIVE COLUMN

Both Category are - DONE - In workflow also both shows as GREEN

Any issue in either Done or Go Live shows the issue key Striked Out

But, In the Sprint backlog - top right corner - we see story point addition for each category

- To do, In progress, Done (Green)

Although I have edited the status , columns, set resolution to both, Strike out is happening

Still it adds up only last Column/status that is GO LIVE story points

It should add both DONE and GO LIVE

Please respond if I am missing some configuration.

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Boards only consider the very last column of the board to be "done".

The strike-out is unrelated, it refers to whether an issue has a resolution set or not.  If the resolution is empty, an issue is unresolved and shows normally.  If the resolution is set (to anything, doesn't matter what), then the issue is resolved, and hence struck out.

Note - there is a bit of a disconnect here.  Boards consider the last column when thinking "done".  The rest of Jira looks at the empty/not-empty resolution field.  There is nothing directly joining those up, you have to consider it when building your workflows and configuring your boards.

Thank you for the detailed response.

So basically is there no way to edit the configuration for story points addition that shows up as In Progress/Complete bubbles?

I have been thinking that logically when we assign a story to Resolution/Completion - the story points associated with it should also be considered Resolved/Complete.

Eg -

US1 - 5 SP Done - Set to resolution & Done category

US2 - 10 SP Go Live - Set to resolution & Done category

Current Jira behavior : Shows only 10 SP Done in Green bubble & 5 SP for In Progress blue bubble

Ideal behavior : 15 SP Done in Green bubble

There's nothing to configure here, the diagram is showing you what the board is showing you - the issues that are done are only the ones in the last column.

SP Addition Limitation.PNG

If you see the data - 12 SP are complete/resolved - but only 2 is displayed

So if we say that we cannot configure the story point addition so that it is in sync with the actual resolved stories - not sure why Jira has this limitation

In that case allowing user to have more than one "Set resolution" is an incomplete solution to a problem

There's not enough information in your screenshot to point to exactly where your data is coming from, but it is probably correct.

My guess would be that AC-79 and either AC-51 or AC-52 are in the "done" column, and the other of AC-51 and AC-52 is in the "Go live" column.

So showing 2 Story points complete is correct - you've only got 2 Story points in the last column - as before, the column that is "done" (whatever you choose to call it)

That is the case then.
Jira would always take the last column for story point addition- even if it allows to set 2 resolutions

Thank you for the responses and spending time on this question.
