Hi Team,
There are few questions wrt the below fields in JIRA ‘Story’

  • Story points
  • Story point estimate
  • Original estimate

Which of these fields are recommended to be used in ‘Story’ ?

Can you give a brief of each of these fields?

Which one is taken into the burn-down widgets?

kindly help!

Thanks,

Rahini

Story Points applies only to issues in Company Managed projects.

In Team Managed projects Story Points Estimate is used instead.

Story Points fields are a numeric field you use to estimate the work to complete the task. This is a relative estimation, so all all tasks estimated at 3 story points are estimated to take roughly the same amount of work. It is not intended to correlate to an amount of time. For more information on Story Points refer to this article:

https://www.atlassian.com/agile/project-management/estimation

Original Estimate is an estimation of how much time will be required to complete the task. Frequently when Original Estimate is used, teams will also use the Log Work feature to track how much time was actually required to complete the task. They can then compare the Logged Work to the Original Estimate and improve their estimation process. Using Log Work is not required.

You can use both Story Points (or Story Points Estimate) and Original Estimate in issues, or just use one or the other.

For more information on how the reports use these values refer to:
