liya May 27, 2025

I can not see the story point summary from subtasks.

I need see each developer's effort estimation. Could anyone help with this?

Hey @liya

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Story points for Subtasks are not considered by default since these are not considered independent work items. We have a suggestion ticket related to this: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-90772

As @Piyush Annadate _ACE Pune_ has suggested, an automation rule would be the workaround here. Unfortunately, it doesn't give the complete picture when you filter for a developer who has only subtasks assigned to them. This would require manual effort.

Thanks!

 Thanks for your reply.

As you see in the screenshot, numbers 1 and 0.6 are all story points for subtasks.

The main user story might be split into multiple subtasks and assigned to different developers.

When I am looking for effort estimation for a particular developer, the story points from subtasks are not calculated. I will be confused by the numbers.

And below is the setting for my board configuration. Let me know if you need any more details.

Hi, The story points are not calculated as sum from subtask to parent; you may need to have an automation to perform that.

Trigger, Story points field update,
Condition: Type is story points
Action: Calculate the parent sub task story points and update the parent.

Hi,

The solution proposed is only to make sure the parent task will have a summarized story point.

But when I only filter out a particular developer, he/she might only have subtasks, how to see the summary for the subtasks' story points?

Hello @liya ,
Welcome to the Atlassian Community !
Can you confirm if your subtask has STORY POINTS populated?
I would suggest, to have story points at STORY LEVEL only, which is better process.

Anyhow, check your board config for estimation is having STORY POINTS or other calculation field?Screenshot 2025-05-27 at 3.01.54 PM.png
