When time is logged on the sub-task, time remaining on parent story is not updated automatically.
My team has tendency to break down quite big stories (30-40) hrs into subtasks and then log time into subtasks.
I would like to allow them to log time on subtasks, but work in the constraints of parent story estimations, especially looking at time remaining.
When they log time on subtasks I can see total time spend on the parent Story, but parent story time remaining is not reduced (udpated) by time spend on the sub-task, which is main problem.
I have multiple reports working on story time remaining thus I cannot see project progress accuratley.
1. "Include Subtasks" checkbox does not help as it only aggregates time spent, but does not reduce time remaining of parent story
2. I cannot have smaller stories, even if I would I still want to allow time logging on subtasks. Thus need to see time logging on sub task reducing 'time remaining' on parent task.
3. Creating multiple epics for aggregation does not help. I.e. I need to have epic for Integrations and Stories for individual Providers we integrate.
Hi @Tomasz Dülz ,
My initial recommendation would be to 'drop' Original estimate from Story to each Sub-task as then you would be able to see how much time was logged vs. how much time was estimated.
Now, to the problem itself—this is a known limitation where Jira actually only sums "time spent" and "time remaining" on the parent story does not update automatically: JRACLOUD-70150: Sub-tasks no longer have their estimate and time tracked on the parent (Epic) issue for the new Full View Issue experience
An alternative would be to create Jira automation rule that would roll up time spent values from Sub-tasks to Story/parent item.
Cheers,
Tobi
