How do I assign subtasks utilizing different steps in the workflow? For example, if I have a standard workflow consisting of Backlog>To-do List>Development>Testing>Validation>Review and I have one subtask that only utilizes the development and review steps,. How do I set the subtask to include only these two steps so that the user is not able to move it to other steps?

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Create a new workflow that suits your sub-tasks, and then edit the project's workflow scheme so that it tells the project to use the new workflow for the sub-task types.

Hi @Katherine Zhuo

Welcome to Atlassian Community

This is possible to do if you are using server version of Jira - there a few community post that covers your use case.

Creating a different workflow for sub-tasks within an existing project  and How to use different workflow for Subtask in jira?

If you using the cloud version of Jira - the same can be said. You can associate a different workflow to a subtask.

You would need to create a workflow specific to the subtask (backlog >> dev >> review) and associate this workflow to the project and the issue type (subtask) so that moving forward the subtask issue type can only be moved to the specified status in your workflow.

Use this page for guidance in editing workflows in Jira: Create and manage issue workflows and issue workflow schemes
