Sum up logged time for a project

Martin

Hello there,

I would like to automate a way to sum all logged timesheets of a project into a single field. Why? We use issues of a project as a portfolio, and managers wants to see there how much time was worked in total on a project.

I know how to create the automation, but I'm guessing, it would be a custom JSON parsing.

Your help would be appreciate!

Hello @Martin

There is no project-level field for storing such information.

You could create another issue just for storing the time logged against all the other issues in the project.

You could create an Automation rule triggered by Work Logged, and then have an action to log the same amount of time against your time tracking issue.

Or you could look at third party apps that provide time tracking reporting. One that I worked with that I thought was not too expensive and balanced simplicity with a good variety of grouping/roll-up options was Worklogs - Time Tracking and Reports.

Thank you @Trudy Claspill for recommending our application!

@Martin With our app, you can easily track logged time for a particular project:

There are many more possibilities to filter your data and what's more, you can export it to the Excel file.

If you would like to test our application then I recommend installing it, as 30 days is free or you can try our interactive demo right now, which is available here.

If you have any questions, I invite you to contact us.

Kind regards,

Hi @Martin

If you are interested not only in time reports but also in calculating project costs, then try the Cost Tracker app.
My team developed it.

Here in this article, we've explained how to apply it to projects.

I'm also attaching screenshots of sample reports.

Here's a 30-day trial for you to test the app.epic3.png

Hi @Martin

you might consider using time-tracking apps that in most cases have a customizable report of tracked time on issues.

I can recommend our Clockwork Automated Time Tracking & Timesheets Pro app, which offers you the possibility to review timesheets and create reports that can be configured in various ways using break-down and filtering options. In your case you can simply choose what project you would like to include in the timesheet. This way you can quickly see how much time was spent on a specific project for a specific period of time.

Please find below the sample of how the timesheet looks like:

Hi @Martin,

Try our Great Gadgets app. It can help you display these numbers on a Jira dashboard, which you could then share with your managers.

With the Issue Filter Formula or the Advanced Issue Filter Formula gadgets you can sum-up and display the logged work as in this example.

This app offers many other gadgets that you will find useful.

Thank you,
