Summary field Option

Is it true that the summary field is the link to open a issue and edit or add data? Is there any reason why i cant make another field to have that same capability? 

Other questions is if i can customize the Summary field to change the name?

@joshYou can't change it,  but you  can  set  summary field base on another field.

But a summary will always be required. Even if you populated it through a postfunction, it will still need to be set, and it will always be shown on the issue details page.

@joshofcourse,  but he can  write a JavaScript that will  manipulate the summary, hide it  and set a  default value in the  summary. then set the field value base on another field on the screen, this  is best  he can get.

Hello Jon,

You can't change the name of the Summary field, and you can't have an issue without the summary field filled out. 

I think you're referring to the search interface, where the issue ID and the Summary become links; if that's right, there's no other way to change the field that becomes a hyperlink.
