System points to wrong installation directory while upgrading JIRA Server from 7.4 to 8.1

Matis Aas May 11, 2019

Hello everyone!

I am trying to upgrade our JIRA instance from version 7.4 to 8.1. When I try to run the installation wizard and choose Upgrade an existing JIRA installation it shows that i have an existing JIRA installation directory, but it points to a wrong directory(in fact to a directory that doesn't even exist). Funny thing is that when i choose Custom or Express install, it points to a correct installation directory and when i select it, it says JIRA is already installed there.
I can't change the installation directory either.
What might be the issue and how can i resolve this? This situation is critical and fast feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

The solution to this problem was running the installation wizard without sudo command.

Hi @Matis Aas ,

Fast workaround to create link form 'what want installer' to right directory.

Maybe some variable in scripts? Check scripts in bin directory.

grep -ne "dir which found installer" /Atlassian/JIRA7/bin*

Hello Andrei!

Thank you for your reply, but this isn't the case. I grepped the directory, but it isn't defined anywhere. I am sure there's a simple fix, but I can't seem to locate it.
