Task for multiple teams

Lisa Brogan July 18, 2022

Hi All - I'm looking for a way to allow two separate teams to be able to work on a single ticket/task. For example, a ticket is created and one team works on the initial step of the request and then when that is completed the other team is notified that they can work on the next step. Thinking if there are any possibilities like the below?:

The ticket comes into team one's project queue, the first team works on it, they transition the ticket to a new workflow stage that then notifies the other team and enters their project queue. When team two's step is completed they transition the ticket to done, and all parties involved on the ticket are notified. If they need to transition back to team one, could that be done as well?

Interested if anyone has any tips for something like this. Thank you!

Hi @Lisa Brogan ,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

- If it was a software project, then it could be done with a kanaban or scrum boards with use of saved filters for team specific tasks.

jira software cross project board with jql.png

- Other way might be going 1 lvl above and create epic which is cross project, then create tasks under epic for specific teams in their dedicated project

However, you mentioned queues and that is kind of dedicated word for service management projects. In JSM case it won't be so simple, because those project can have different sets of agents and ticket visibility.

- maybe there is some app which can do some cross-project view/work

- you can change process to include subtasks which triggers processes in other projects - this would cause some duplications probably

Other idea:

Build some dedicated dashboard with filtered results for dedicated teams. You can organize it with columns as it would look in the kanban project. Just remember to double check if all users can see tickets, which they should see (or act on)

Let us know how will you handle this at the end :)

Cheers,
Łukasz
