Thumbs file after deleting an attachment

Ashish K May 20, 2022

Hi Team,

What is this Thumbs file on the server after deleting an attachment??

Do we need to delete the thumbs file as well to completely delete the attachment?

We are Jira server 8.8.1

Hi Ashish,

Thanks for posting to the Atlassian Community!

Just to confirm, you are referencing the Thums.db file that is created in the Windows folder on the server?

If so, the Thumbs file is actually not a Jira specific file.  That file is created by the Windows operating system.  It should be created by the OS when you using the thumbnail previews in the Windows Explorer within that folder.  So if you were load the attachments directory in Windows Explorer and the view had thumbnail previews that file would be generated.  You can also generate that file on any Windows directory that has thumbnail previews in it.

I do not believe there is any harm in deleting that file, however that would be something that would best confirmed by a Windows server admin.  The file should have no impact to Jira.

If the Thumbs.db file on the Windows OS is not what you are referring to here and I have misunderstood your question, please let me know and I would be happy to discuss further.

Best,

Andy
