Tickets moved to the next sprint when closing the current sprint

I closed a sprint and lots of ticket moved to next sprint automatically.

The tickets were in status "QA approved" which we defined as completed status, but they have few open sub-tasks.

my question is, did they move to next sprint because of the open sub -tasks?

and if this is the case, can it be changed?

Jira recognizes issues as done if they are in the right most column om the sprint board.
Do you maybe have another "green" (or any) status-column at the right of your "QA approved" on the board?

All your "closed" statuses should be in the same rightmost column of your board.

By definition, if an issue has open sub-tasks, it can't be done, parts of it are not done.

Thanks. This worked for me. I ended up creating a new transition to the same final state

Greetings!

Manoj, this was not David's question for which to accept an answer.  It is from someone else, posted about a year and a-half ago...and so the answer should not be accepted without their input.  (Others in the community farm / troll older questions just to earn "points", apparently asking other community leaders to accept their posts.)

David, for older threads I recommend creating a new question.  That will ensure the maximum number of people see it to offer suggestions.  Otherwise only people following the old thread will notice.  Thanks!

Kind regards,
Bill

Your "QA approved" status is misconfigured.

First, by definition, an issue cannot be "done" if it has open sub-tasks.  You should configure your workflow such that it won't let people move an issue into "done" unless all of its sub-tasks are done as well (or train people not to do it)

Second, I suspect your "QA approved" status is not mapped into the last column on the board.  Only the last column is considered "done" when you close a sprint (and it looks at the sub-tasks too - they all need to be in the last column for their parent to be considered done)
