Time Tracking in Team managed projects

shazna.azher August 7, 2022

 Hi Community,

In our team, we are exploring the time tracking built-in feature in Jira Cloud. We are trying to,

  1. Configure the "Original estimate" and "Time spent" fields as mandatory. Is this possible?
  2. know whether time tracking behaves differently in “Team managed” and "Company managed" projects?
  3. Furthermore, can the time tracking feature contain enhanced features in the premium subscription than the standard one?

Look forward to seeing an expert's reply on this. Thanks and appreciate your time on this query.

Hi @shazna.azher ,

I'm Violetta from the Planyway team:)

Here's more information on how to make these fields manadatory: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/specify-field-behavior/ and yes, it behaves the same way for both project types.

You can also test out the Planyway extension for Jira time tracking. It's linked to Jira's Time tracking and Original estimate fields but your teammates can track time either inside Jira card manually or with a timer automatically and even use a dedicated time tracking view. Then, the data can be exported to the Excel sheet or viewed with Report.

Let me know if you have questions:)

Hi @Violetta

Thank you for your reply. We would like to primarily explore the built-in Jira time tracking has the capability to enter time in a given date range (start date & finish date)? Moreover, we need to extract the original time estimation, the time spent and the time remaining and also to make these fields mandatory in a required Jira project. Apparently, PlanyWay supports these I guess.

@shazna.azher , yes, you're right. You can export the original time estimate and time spent fields to excel/csv easily with Planyway. Remaining time is not exported currently (but soon we will support all Jira custom fields). For now, you can set up a formula in your Excel sheet to calculate remaining time right there.

As for the built-in Jira functionality, you can only put the number of hours there, not the date range. If you'd like to set the data range, it's better to use the issue duration field. When exporting this data in Planyway, the issue start and end will be exported too.
