Time tracking report for Team Managed projects

manfred.vankuijk October 16, 2023

We have some Team Managed projects where we do time tracking. But somehow it seems not possible to start the Time Tracking report from these projects.

I searched online and found that this might have to do with the fact that the project is a Team Managed project. My first question is: is it true that the Time Tracking report can not be started from a Team Managed project?

However I did find a way to get the report for a Team Managed project, but is on a bit of a strange way. I opened the Team Managed project in Jira Cloud. From there I went straight to the overview of all projects. There I opened a Team-Managed business. From there I went to reports and I could choose the Time Tracking Report. After choosing the right criteria and clicking Next I got the report for my Team Managed project. Is this the right way to get this overview for a Team Managed Project? If it is possible like this, then why not through the project itself?

Anyone any experience with this? And any nice solutions? Or do we need 3rd party apps for this?

Hello,

If you are considering third party apps, I would like to recommend to you our Worklogs - Time Tracking and Reports.

Our app takes Jira issue fields and Jira native Time Logs to create a Worklogs report. We support both company managed projects and team managed projects. Also, you can use custom fields in our reports.

So, for example you can check how much time your users spent on each customer related tasks:

All reports, can be saved, exported or displayed on a Jira dashboard:

You can try out our app in a free trial or right away in an interactive demo here.

Hi @manfred.vankuijk

Can you share what type of a team-managed project you want the report for?

I've just tested it in a team-managed Jira Work Management project and I was able to find a time-tracking report under Reports, in the Forecast & Management section, but it was a report for just that specific project. I do not know how you managed to choose a different project with this report.

I can confirm that reports are unavailable for Jira Software Team-managed projects out of the box and you might need a third-party timesheets app to get the insights you want.

One such app is our Clockwork for Jira Free, which works with Jira worklogs so you can just install it, go to Timesheet, choose your filters, and voila - your time tracking report will be ready

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

Hi @Wojciech Wardaszko

Thanks for your reply. We are going to look into Clockwork to see if it would be something for you.

Concerning the projects: what I can see, is that it is a type Team-managed software project. Does that help?

It's as I feared, @manfred.vankuijk

Team-managed Software projects do not have built-in reporting capabilities at all. You won't be able to pull the data you're looking for without a third-party app, at least for now.

I'm here if you have any other questions.

Cheers!

And is that something that is possible with Clockwork, @Wojciech Wardaszko ?

@manfred.vankuijk It sure is, and it's plug-and-play kind of experience :) If you want, I can give you a demo - just schedule one using this page :)
