As of June 29th, 2020, Enterprise releases are now called Long Term Support releases. The security bug fix policy for these releases was also updated - we will continue to backport critical security bug fixes and now when architecturally possible, all other security bug fixes are backported to the release for 24 months. We currently have projects in JIRA version, 6.4.10 which is running in a UNIX server. We have new server built with JIRA 8.5.1.
The ask is to start migrating all projects from the existing 6.4.10 to the new version 8.5.1.
Can you kindly tell how this can be achieved. Atlassian documents mention that Project Configurator can be used in this case.
Can you tell more about the options available.
PS: Both the versions are running on server and not cloud.
Thanks
S
There is no built-in way to migrate projects, but as you have stated you can use Project Configurator add-on to do this.
The problem is however, that both Jira instances need to be at the same version before you can use P.C to do the project migration. So you will need to first upgrade your old instance to 8.5.1.
Thanks Pete.
If I have to upgrade our old instance to 8.5.1, there should be intermediate releases that we should be upgrading too, right.
From what I understood from the documents, it shows,
6.4.10 --> 7.0 --> 7.13 --> 8.5.1
Is my understanding correct.
Also, is this the only possible option that can be made available in order to support the migration OR are there other options.
Kindly suggest.
Thanks
S

If you want to migrate ALL projects, you don't need to use Project Configurator, you could just do a backup/restore of the Jira instance. But again, they need to be at the same version. Unfortunately following the specified upgrade path is your only option I know of.
