Too late to install Jira Cloud Migration Assistant?

Barrie Walker February 6, 2024

I'm wanting to migrate from Jira server to cloud.

Trying to Install the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant

It says:

To install the assistant:

  1. In Jira Server or Data Center, go to Administration > Manage apps.

  2. Select Find new apps.

  3. Search for Jira Cloud Migration Assistant.

  4. Select Install.

At step 2 it says "End of sale and support for server apps"

and I have no idea how to get past this.

Can someone help?

Thanks
Barrie

Hi @Barrie Walker

can you check, whether it's been already pre-installed? You are on a current Jira version and at some point the App has been included in the Install packages.

Administration > System > Migrate to Cloud

Is that option available in your system?

Barrie Walker February 6, 2024

That option is there.

Thank you.

However, clicking on it brings up a blank page.

By which I mean a page with the menus and side bar but nothing where information or actions would be.

Can you provide a screenshot?

Odd. If you cannot update the existing App under "Manage Apps" you can maybe try to manually install the App.

You can download it here: Jira Cloud Migration Assistant - Version history | Atlassian Marketplace and install by clicking "Upload App" under Manage Apps.Screenshot 2024-02-06 174259.png

However, I don't know what happens if the App already exists in your Instance so try that out in your Test Environment first.

Barrie Walker February 7, 2024

I seem to have installed that version manually.

I say it like that because when managing apps I get the error "The base URL configuration of your instance does not match the URL in your browser. This can prevent operations on this page from working correctly". I've checked the setting and it matches the url in the browser.

Ploughing on (since it only says "can prevent", not "will prevent"), I upload the downloaded app and I get "An unexpected error occurred. Refer to the logs for more information." (not sure which log to be looking at).

However, "Jira Cloud Migration Assistant" does now appears in the user-installed list instead of the system list.

I've restarted the jira service in case that was needed.

Clicking "Migrate to cloud" still looks as in the screenshot above.

I'm still not having any success getting "Migrate to cloud " to offer me anything.

Wondering if I can just import saved products one by one.

I don't have many and they're small, but not so small that I'd enjoy reentering all the information.

Sorry I couldn't help you with that. It's hard to tell without access to the instance. I don't have an environment where I could replicate that issue. They are all up to date and the JCMA works fine.

Maybe the official Atlassian Support can help you: Atlassian Support

Barrie Walker February 10, 2024

Thank you for trying, I really appreciate it.

I'll see if the official support can help.

Unfortunately I'm now on an unpaid plan - I only have 2 users with a handful of light projects. I was a paid one until a few days ago.

Seems I can only wait and hope one of the lovely support staff and developers from Atlassian who check in regularly to help answer tricky or highly technical questions can assist me.

Hi @Barrie Walker

I created a support case on your behalf over in https://getsupport.atlassian.com/servicedesk/customer/portal/49/MOVE-1742458

I recommend that you create a support zip from your environment and including that in that ticket so that our support team can take a closer look at your logs.

I have the same issue. My version of Jira is 8.5.5, so I do not have it already installed

Hello @Barrie Walker

This app should be a system app now.

Try going to the Managed Apps and then filter out System Apps and try to find the JCMA app.

Barrie Walker February 6, 2024

Unfortunately I'm not finding JCMA.

Barrie Walker February 6, 2024

I was too literal.

I have found "Jira Cloud Migration Assistant"

7 modules offering to be disabled.
