Tracking tasks dependencies: notify that a dependent task has been completed?

Hi,

Anyone know if in Jira there's a way to automatically notify you that the task you depend on has been completed?

I'm wondering if you could set something up via workflows, but I don't have much experience with tuning workflows.

Thanks!

Val

Hi @Valerie Pierre,

You'd rather be looking at automation to do this. You could set up a rule that:

  • is being triggered by an issue being completed;
  • for all linked issues with a specific link type
  • send a notification or add a comment

To get you started, have a look at this rule from the template library Screenshot 2021-05-21 at 00.41.29.png

The When part is what you'll need as well. If you specify your completed status(es) there, you don't need the additional if issue matches JQL.

You'll need to replace the For Sub-tasks branch with one on linked issues instead.

And to wrap up, the final action would not be a transition of your linked issues, but adding a comment or sending a notification message.

Hope this helps! I'm sure you can figure it out from here!
