Have a project in Jira that has been using plain text for the longest time. Years and years. We'd like to switch to rich text editing but do not know what the ramifications will be to the numerous cards that have been closed and what is still open in the backlog? Any known issues with doing this switch that we should be aware of?
Hi @Amy Vassallo Renderers affect the rendering (view) of a field's value. This means that you can migrate to a different renderer without affecting your issue data; only the view will be changed. It also means that if you do not like the way your issues look using the new renderer, you can simply switch back with no impact on your issue data.

@Amy Vassallo I know you were asking for server and in addition to the articles mentioned by @Vikrant Yadav , you should look at this article: https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/specifying-field-behavior-938847255.html
I made a quick video demonstrating how I would do this in the cloud (I don't have access to data center), but the steps should be similar. Take a look at the 6 minute mark.
