Unable to assign System Adminstrator permissions

I need to assign myself System Administrator permissions in order to add a status to a column in the Dashboard- (I have all the other permissions available).

I however can't do this because the previous System administrator is not longer a user, and apparently only a System Administrator can add another System Administrators?

You won't get system-admin on Cloud, it is for Atlassian only.

But, you don't need system-admin to make that change, just jira admin
