Unable to change Assignee name

I have been recently added to a project. I am able to view the board and check all the backlog items. However I am not able to change the assignee name or change the status of any story/sub-task. Suggest a way to triage the issue and possible solution to fix this problem

Welcome to the community

You can see if the project admin is able to grant you a different role on the project or that the permission scheme has to be adjusted.

I don't know how the setup in your project is off course, but you do mis permissions like mentioned by @Carmen Odimba 

I think even more, like;

- Assignable User

- Edit Issues

- Resolve Issues

- Close Issues

I you can't this means you will need to reach out to your Jira admin to help you out with this issue as an admin is able to make changes or can direct you to the project admin, if required.

you are probably missing 2 permissions:

• Assign issues 
• Transition issues

Please ask the project admin to grant them to you or add you to the role that has these permissions in your project.
