Unable to connect to new JIRA Server to Microsoft SQL Server locally

xmorera June 5, 2019

I am installing from scratch JIRA, and I can't get it to connect.

It is SQL Server 2017, and I have tried all combinations for the named instance. The weird thing is that a few minutes ago I installed Confluence and it worked fine. So the database  configuration is correct and the ports are open. There is no support for starter licenses, so can anyone help me here? Thanks in advance.

This is the error I get

Error connecting to database

The TCP/IP connection to the host ALPHARETTA/BIGDATAINC, port 1433 has failed. Error: "ALPHARETTA/BIGDATAINC. Verify the connection properties. Make sure that an instance of SQL Server is running on the host and accepting TCP/IP connections at the port. Make sure that TCP connections to the port are not blocked by a firewall.".

And I am trying in  every possible way

Ah,

and another hint:

Hostname is for a hostname or ip address and not for a SERVER/INSTANCE scheme.

Hi,

did you try a 'netstat -an' to check of the MSSQL server is listening to the port & ip you specified. Does your name resolution work? ping MYSERVER

I guess you're not using the express version which is not supported.

Best
