Unable to create subtasks for all issue types (Epic/Story/Task)

Fengjie June 29, 2022

JIRA Software 7.6.3

Unable to create subtasks for all issue types (Epic/Story/Task)

I tried the Field Configurations and Screen Configurations but didn't find a place to configure it.

How can I enable or restore this feature back?

The cloud version has this function by default without configuration.

Hi @Fengjie ,

It could mean that the issue type scheme for the project does not include subtasks. You should add a sub task to the issue type scheme.

Hi @Ollie Guan

Thanks for reply.

I checked Project settings .The subtask issue type exists in the issue type scheme associated with the project (as shown in the screenshot below)

And Sub-tasks are enabled in the Sub-Tasks administration pageimage.png

Hi @Fengjie ,

Subtask?

Project?

Hi @Ollie Guan

Florin and Ollie already got the first two things to check.  Third is:

Has your right to create issues in this project been removed?  Can you click "create" and check that you can select this project?

Fengjie June 30, 2022

Thanks,Yes, I am logged in as a JIRA administrator and have all permissions.

Ok, it was worth a look, as it's one possibility here, but I see Ollie's answer turned out to be the one!

Something that might catch you out in the future though.  Administrator rights do not mean "can do anything", they only give you administrator access.  Project permissions are separate.  It is possible to have an admin who has no access to do anything in any project!  (But admin rights means they can give themselves project permissions if they want)
