Undo and prevent emoji in Jira

I pasted in a code snippet to a Jira comment that got emoji-ized.  How do I turn it off? 

Adding spaces between the : and the P is not an acceptable solution because I am discussing a bug between "Category:People" and "Category: People".

you could use the "code" formatting for this, i think.
