Unknown Stream field is required when creating an issue

Jennifer Tong February 7, 2023

In the issue creation form, when I have filled in all mandatory fields and tried to create an issue. I got the below warning:

Stream: Stream is required.

but there is no stream field inside the form. This issue happens on all Jira projects, is this a global problem?

Hi!

That's weird indeed. First, do you have Jira admin permissions? If so, let's first check some things:

  • Go to Custom Fields and see if the Stream field exists
  • If so, go to the workflow of the issue you are trying to create and check whether there is a validator on the Create transition, requiring the Stream field.
  • If so you have found the reason for getting the message.

Now, the field might not be on the Create screen, but that's also something you can check. From the Create screen you can use the "Find your field" functionality, which explains why the field is not on the screen:

Let me know if this helps!

Most likely this stream field has been set as required in the field configuration linked to your (company managed) projects.

Open project settings of any impacted project, navigate to project settings and have a look what field configuration it is using. A Jira administrator should be able to verify the settings for this field and - if this is indeed the issue - update the setting back to optional.

Hope this helps!
