Update Epic links based on Custom field value comparison

Hi Team,

I have a custom field of Text datatype available in two projects. I'm looking to update the Epic link on the Tasks in one project if the custom field value of the Issues match in both the projects. The customfield is available on Epic issue type of one project and Task issue type of another.

Simply put, based on a VLOOKUP, I'd like to update the Epic link. 

I have Automation for JIRA in my instance. Can such a use case be implemented? If yes, kindly enlighten me how.

Can I confirm the logic here...

• If a text field is updated...
• And the text in a Task (in one Project) matches an Epic (in another Project)
• Then update the Task's Epic Link to the matching Epic

If yes, what if there's more than one Epic the text matches to? And how is this going to handle spelling errors, or grammatical errors?

It feels that whilst it might be possible, there is an error margin which could be difficult to manage.
