Updating User properties from LDAP without authentication

We want to store additional information about our users in JIRA - we decided to go with user properties since we are able to use these variables in our custom workflows. To keep these properties and their values up to date we want to use OKTA as a main source of truth. Okta recently came with a new feature called - The Okta LDAP Interface which is a cloud proxy that consumes LDAP commands and translates them to Okta API calls. We would like to put this new feature to use. Is there anybody who previously used LDAP for updating just User Properties and if so - does it have to be used along authentication of User to the service in order to update these user properties or it can be implemented independently.
