We currently have JIRA server running which license expired earlier this year. We need to migrate the project from this server into an existing on premise DataCenter. For this we tried to use the ProjectConfigurator plugin unfortunately this fails because the JIRA version of the server is not compatible with the one from DataCenter.
So we would need to upgrade existing JIRA server first but to avoid any issues on production we want to test this on a non-prod environment first. This would however require at least a trial license for JIRA server which apparently is not possible anymore.
So 2 questions really:
1. is there a way to migrate the projects in spite of the version incompatibility?
2. is there a way to get a (trial) license of a JIRA server?
Hi @Stijn Geukens ! Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
I think your best option is to go to my.atlassian.com and acquire a trial Data Center license. Apply the DC license to your Server instance.
Now that your Server(now DC instance) is upgradable, upgrade Jira and Project Configurator so you can export the project and import into your existing DC instance.
Hope this helps!
Hi @Stijn Geukens, welcome to the community!
As far as I know, it's not possible to get a trial for Jira Server since Atlassian has discontinued it. However, you have a few options:
Upgrade to Data Center (Single Node): You can upgrade your Server instance to a single-node Data Center instance. This allows you to perform the migration without worrying about version compatibility. Be aware that once upgraded, you can't revert back to the Server version.
Temporary Environment for Testing: If you need to keep your Server environment running as is, you can create a backup and restore it on a temporary environment. Perform the necessary upgrades in this environment and then migrate the projects from the temporary environment to your Data Center target. This minimizes risk to your production environment.
Third-Party Migration Tools: Explore other third-party migration tools that might handle version discrepancies better. Some tools are designed to work across different versions and could simplify the migration process.
Atlassian Support: Contact Atlassian support to see if they can provide a temporary license or another solution for your specific scenario. They might have options or recommendations tailored to your needs.
I hope this helps!
Cheers,
Melo
