Use add tasks to incorrect Epic

Kevin Seery

Hi,

I have an issue were user keep creating tasks in the wrong Epic or not including an Epic link.

I was trying to create a workflow button that creates a 'Task' issue type than as a post function adds the correct epic link.

I want the workflow to pop a screen for the user to add details then this will add a task type. With the Epic link added as a post function.

I can't see how to make the issue type I create from the workflow default to Task?

We have the JMWE add-on if that helps.

Many Thanks

Kevin

Hi @Kevin Seery

Whilst this might be possible - what is there to stop a user putting the wrong information into this screen and still ending up on the wrong Epic?

This seems quite complex when it's more of a people issue than a system one - have you considered:

  • Template: Create a button in Confluence that users click to create the issue. You can edit the Create Issue URL using HTML - see this article for instructions. You could set each Epic in a different button - or perhaps put instructions in the Description field?
  • Field Configuration: Add a description to the Epic Link field - instructing users on how to pick the right Epic for their Task. You can use HTML links here also, so could direct the user to a Confluence page describing which Epic to choose.
  • Epic Link Required: Make the Epic Link required on the Task workflow - this does depend on all Tasks needing an Epic Link though. See this article which should be possible using JMWE.
