Use human-friendly name for Users in JQL?

As  Jira user, I'm trying to make our JQL more maintainable by using Human-readable User names in the JQL

Example: 

Hard to review this JQL for "does it do what I want", much less try to modify it.

reporter in (62d5a2da657fc166e25fae76, 5da746495e4e210c3ef1abb3)

I'd like to have reporter in (bobA, JohnN)

Answers in this post suggest a work around and third party app.

It appears this is an intentional design by Atlassian as per this article.
