Use of component

I have a question.

what is the advantage to using the components?

The component is a classification of the Jira project. The main advantages are:

• Each component can have a component leader in order to assign the issue automatically.
• You can use component field in Jira reports.
• Is a multivalue field.
• Components can be different in each Jira project.
• Only project admin can create new components.

From my point of view, if you need a classification of the Jira project is better to use this field than a custom select list.

They are a useful way to break up the issues in a project into related groups, and it allows project administrators to set the list of groups.

As an example, imagine building a house as a project, you'll probably want to break things down a bit into things like walls, roofing, doors, windows, plumbing, electrics, gas, heating and so-on

I'd say it's how Jira does autoassignment of issues. And you can have multiple values for the Components field. And it's complex how that affects autoassignment!
