Did you mean:

Use story name as a label on tasks

Felicia Johansson October 4, 2021

Hi,

I have started to make a roadmap where I have divided work into multiple epics containing stories, tasks and subtasks. Now, on my kanban-board I have decided to divide my issues into swimlanes which are based on the different epics they belong to.

My question is: is it possible to label all tasks cards with the name of the story they belong to? I have tried to find such a label in Board settings --> Card layout but not been able to find one.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Felicia Johansson ,
I'm not 100% sure if I understood correctly want you meant, but I think you want to subordinate Tasks under a Story? In Jira Tasks and Stories are on the same level, so you can't rank the Story above the Task. What you could do, is creating Subtasks below the Story, or is there a reason why you don't want to do this?
The general hierarchy is

Epic
Story/Task
Subtask

I think this Thread explains it very well.
If I missed your problem, maybe you can explain it a little bit further?

Hi @Tim-Hauke Eckhardt and thank you so much for you answer!

You have understood my question correctly and I see now that it is a hierarcy issue. I think I will try to manually label them instead.

I believe what is being asked is not hierarchy questioning, but simply visual indications of information.  For instance:  I have a sub-task showing on my Scrum or Kanban board.  I want the card to show the name of the Story that the sub-task belongs to.

I am also looking for the exact same thing.  How can I show the name of the Story on a Sub-task card?  The Parent field?
