User Story not following Sub task through workflow?

Hi there! I've created a custom workflow for one of my teams and applied it to the issue types they are currently using. In the "out of the box" Jira workflow, when you move your sub tasks through the workflow, the user story follows. So once all sub tasks are complete, the user story automatically shows as complete or done as well. 

Is there a way to get this with a custom workflow so that my developers don't have to go in and  manually move their user stories too? Thanks!
