I am at my wits end with Jira. The permission structure seems to be some kind of maze that's just not making sense to me. I have a user who can not view any work in two Jira boards he's a member of. One is a kanban and one sprint board.

The user is in one of the groups that is sync'ed and part of the permission scheme for both projects just as everyone else. At one point I was able to add this user directly into the project from the users screen on one of the projects and that seemed to allow him to view/create issues in the sprint but it also felt unnecessary to add him directly into the people list when in permissions it shows all the synch'ed groups from our IDP that he's a member of like everyone else.

To test out the synch'ed IDP groups I went and removed him from the project and he lost view/create access again so I decided to just go ahead and add him to the people list for both projects and now suddenly when I try to add it doesn't find him or anyone else so as soon as I type his name, give him a role it says I have to select a name so it's not loading any pick list.

So now user can't access either project and I am lost with no way of getting help from Atlassian of course.

Hi @Admin Johny Jacques

It seems the user account has been deactivated in the Atlassian system or the user does not have a Jira license, which is why the user is not appearing in the picklist when adding them to a project role.

Kindly check in User Management whether the user has an active Jira license.

  • If the user does not have a Jira license, please assign one.

  • If the user cannot browse a project, it means they don’t have the “Browse Projects” permission.

  • If the user can access the project but not a specific board, it indicates that the board filter is not shared with the user or with any group the user belongs to.

Thanks

The user does have a Jira license and our permissions are managed by our IDP groups and that group has browse project access. User can access the project and board but once in, they can not see any of the tasks but they can create.

If they are facing an issue viewing the task, it seems that some issue security has been applied to the task, which is why it is not visible to the user. Kindly check whether any issue security scheme has been applied to the issues.
