Using AD Groups for Project Roles

I'm testing using AD Groups for project roles in Jira to allow for group management by non-system admins.

When I add the AD group to a project role, the permission is not applied to the group member.  Anyone use AD to manage project roles in Jira?

Please provide more information about how you have concluded that the permissions are not applied to the group members.

Are the members of the group licensed users of the Jira instance?

Do you have JIRA configured to synchronize with AD to pick up groups defined in AD? In JIRA can you go to User Group management, find one of these groups, and view the members of it to confirm JIRA has synchronized with AD and picked up the group members?

I assigned the group to the admin role in the project - the members do not have admin rights to the project.

Yes, we are all licenced  and the AD Groups are synced.
