Using Atlassian Intelligence to write test cases and perhaps more

Erik d_Arbois May 13, 2025

Hi, I'm new to the AI bandwagon and have been given the task to find an AI tool that will help a team of testers improve the quality and speed of the testing process, primarily looking at the test case creation process in the first instance.

To give a bit of a background, in a nutshell we use both Jira and Confluence; we are agile and scrum based; Jira holds our epic and stories in which we have a set of Acceptance Criteria and Business rules to follow, and Confluence holds what we call a 'Knowledgebase' in which we have extensive information stored about various parts of our product.

In order to create our test cases (more like test conditions in the real world), which we write up manually, we currently base them on these acceptance criteria and business rules (Jira) and our knowledgebase (Confluence)

I have come across Jira Intelligence by chance, and am wondering if this tool would be able to help us writing these test cases as an assistant.

Any help on the use of this tool to help in this testing process would be greatly appreciated.

In Jira:

  • When creating or editing a work item (like a Story, Bug, or Task), click the Atlassian Intelligence icon in the description or comment toolbar.

  • You can type a prompt such as:

    • “Write test cases for this feature”

    • “Generate acceptance criteria for this story”

    • “Brainstorm edge cases to test for during QA”

  • Atlassian Intelligence will generate content based on your prompt. You can review, edit, and insert it into your issue 1 2

 Good dary Erik!

So the big one here is probably ROVO. It can access all of your instance data so that should help tap into the knowledge of your organization. It can, for example, propose tests out of a functional design. Combined with automation, you should be able to create a batery of tests.

 Xray Test Management for Jira

If you're not already using it, Xray is a powerful test management app that lives directly inside Jira. It supports:

- Managing manual and automated test cases
- Linking test cases directly to user stories and acceptance criteria
- Integration with BDD (Cucumber) and automation frameworks

While Xray itself isn't AI-powered, it works very well in tandem with AI tools like Rovo or even external assistants (like ChatGPT) to bring structure and traceability to your test cases. You could use AI to help draft test scenarios, then manage and link them in Xray.

Finally, there are rumours that Xray will be including AI into their workflow soon, so I would try to look into it before committing to other tools as, in my opinion, it's probably the best tool for test management in Jira at the moment.

This is a very interesting conversation that we all should be looking into, as it is commonly asked about by my clients 😊

Have a nice day,

Hi @Erik d_Arbois

You can try the Test Case Assistant for Jira plugin — our team recently developed this tool. It uses AI to generate test cases, and you can also create test cases tickets by clicking the "Attach Test case" button.

Below are the links to the plugin on the Atlassian Marketplace and its documentation. Let me know if you have any questions.
