Using Jira Software on AWS

Rakesh Jajper February 15, 2022

Hi team,

I was curious to learn about something where it gives me flexibility in Jira software to notify about add-on updates gets available.

Does anyone come around such requirement that the moment add-on updates available we get notified either as a jira ticket or slack notification?

Hi @Rakesh Jajper , welcome to the Community!

First I'd like to mention a couple items which are useful pieces of information, but - are not precisely a solution to your question.

  1. The Atlassian products themselves have RSS feeds you can subscribe to in Slack using the RSS app. These are detailed on a Community answer linked here . I also enjoy recommending iapetus.fyi which ingests these RSS feeds and displays them nicely for an at-a-glance reference.
  2. The Marketplace does have an API - if you were looking to pull version data into something that wasn't Slack, you could get the app versions from the API and monitor for changes.

Now, to your actual request - getting Marketplace app version changes into Slack. I suggest a hack:

  1. Get the Email address for the Slack channel you want to send updates to. With the Slack-provided app, you can click a channel name in the Slack client, flip to the Integrations tab, and scroll down to "Send emails to this channel".
  2. Create an Atlassian ID with the Slack channel's email address (https://id.atlassian.com/signup opened in a private/incognito tab will create an account even with no Atlassian products associated)
  3. Log in with the Slack channel's email/Atlassian ID
  4. Go to the Marketplace listing for the apps you're interested in, switch to the Versions tab, click "See all ___ versions", and then use the Watch button

At this point, any new updates will trigger an email that should feed into the Slack channel. It's not as clean as RSS feeds, but it will get you the notifications in Slack.

Cheers,
Daniel

Hi @Rakesh Jajper

If you go to the marketplace you can find the app you use and view the version history. Click on the "and more"

From there you can watch that page and it will send you updates when a new version is released.

Thanks,

Thanks Tim, but this way I will be notified, I need some ways to notify to slack channel once updates gets available or show up under Manage Apps section
