We use epics as support requests and, under an epic, there may be one or many task and sub-task issues. I would like to be able to group together epics for the purpose of visualising them together on the Advance Roadmap gantt chart. Is this possible?

Yes, there's a great variability, which issues can be visible in roadmap plan. You can for example create custom filter with your epics and then use it as a issue source for your plan.
Would using it as an issue source group those tickets and show them at the same time as other tickets in other groups on the gantt chart?

you can create new issue type called for example Initiative and configure, that this issue type is above Epic in hierarchy. Then create a few Initiatives and connect different Epics to different Initiatives. Then you can see data and charts for the group of Epics (because they are grouped under Initiatives).
