Velocity Chart is Incorrectly Reporting Story Points

Reyna Battaglia February 14, 2023

Hello,

Velocity Chart, in JIRA, is incorrectly reporting committed story points.

The chart is only reporting committed story points for issues that are completed during the sprint rather than all story points committed.

However, some sprints the report is correct.

Any guidance would be appreciated, thank you.

Hello @Reyna Battaglia

The Velocity Chart reports the Committed Story Points based on the issues and Story Point values at the moment when the sprint was started. If issues are added or removed or Story Point values changed after the start of the sprint, the Committed value does not change.

I recommend that you review the Sprint Report data for the information as it existed at the moment the sprint started, and compare the information in it to what you see as the Committed Story Points in the Velocity Chart.

In order for us to help you explore the question more, we would need you to share the same information with us for one of the sprints that you believe is being reported incorrectly in the Velocity Chart.
