Version query on Delete returning Affect Version and not Fix Version

hitesh.rawal March 16, 2022

I am in the process of cleaning up my Versions and when I list the versions of them are showing related No Issues.  However when I try to delete the Version I receiving a dialog box showing there are associated versions and asking which version do I want to move them to.

I was struggling for a while with this as when opening the query to show these associated issues, they didn't look like they had anything to do with the Version and opening the issues, the Fix Version did not match and others had no Fix Version at all.

It was only when someone pointed out to me that the JIRA query is looking at Affect Version and not Fix Version.  And therein lies the problem and therefore what I believe is a bug.  The Delete function in my opinion should be looking at Fix Version and concluding there are no linked issues as per the main Version screen

Hello @hitesh.rawal

I disagree with your reasoning. There is not a bug here.

The Delete Version function needs to be looking at all fields where Version may have been used, and warning you of its use in all those fields, as deleting the version will remove the information from all Versions fields.

When you attempt to delete a version Jira is looking for that version in both the Affected Versions and Fix Versions field.

If in your Version list the Progress column says No Issues, but you get a prompt that the version is used in issues, that means it is used in the Affected Versions field.

If it is used in the Fix Versions field, that will be indicated by something other than No Issues in the Progress column.

If it is used in both the Affected Versions and Fix Versions fields, then your prompt will indicate that, and give you the option to select different versions, one for Fix Versions and one for Affected Versions, to replace the one you are deleting
