I was wondering what the advantages of archiving project in Jira Cloud are apart from the hiding the old data. Are they any performance-based advantages? I know that in DC, it improves the reindexing process.
I believe it is exactly the same in cloud - performance. Also, issues are set as read only automatically and you don’t need to change the permission scheme.

Performance - when a project is archived, its issues won’t appear in basic or advanced search results. This is still important to ensure your instance runs smoothly.
User Experience - archived Projects are not visible to users, and neither are their issues, components, attachments, or versions.
