What is the difference between the fields "Progress" and "Σ Progress"

I am trying to understand the time tracking related fields "Progress" and "Σ Progress"

Is there a documentation on how they are calculated?

Progress is about the issue you are looking at.

Σ Progress is about the issue you are looking at, and its sub-tasks.

Ok, I tested with Epic and Epic-linked issues, so there was no difference.
I guess that is intended that "Σ Progress" only works with sub-tasks and not with epic-links.
