While performing a periodic cleanup of JIRA server, I noticed there is the local account "JDG REST Admin" with jira-administrator priviledge.

Details are:

  • Username:jdg-rest-admin
  • Full Name:JDG REST Admin
  • Email:jdg@localhost.com
  • Active / Inactive:Active

Anyone know what this account is used for?

This is created if you have installed the plugin "Data Generator for Jira". Even if the plugin is uninstalled, the user is left untouched.

Thanks!

Yes, we installed the 'Data Generator' plugin when JIRA was first deployed as evaluation of JIRA performance limits. I will remove the user

That is something one of your admins will have to have set up.  You'll need to ask the other admins why they did it.

Might be worth looking for activity for that user too, there may be a feed or automation of some sort (although if it is, I would immediately question why it has any admin rights)
