When adding a new item under an Epic by clicking on the "+" icon, how to limit issue type to story

It seems that the default issue type is what the last used. It does not make sense to add another Epic .. if possible, how to set a default issue type ie Story.

Even if you try to create an epic you will get an error message because you cannot have an epic on an epic. Not an optimal experience, but don't have another option.
