When copying/pasting instructions into the Jira comments why is the formatting removed?

When copying and pasting instructions or templates into the comments area, the formatting/bolding/numbering does not seem to stay as the original document has it. The option to maintain the original formatting of the language would be beneficial, as a lot of thought does go into our instructions to practices. Most times, once the language is in Jira, there is a good amount of re-formatting to match the original formatting.

Hi Tim, to my knowledge we are not using wiki renderer. If we not, would this help with copying from another program and pasting into the Jira comments area?

Yes this will definitely help. While it may not completely copy the format it will do the basics.

The wiki style renderer allows a user to enter wiki markup to produce HTML content.

This renderer uses the Confluence wiki renderer engine and therefore uses the Confluence wiki notation. The Confluence notation is easy to learn and allows for:

• Italic, bold and underlined text
• Multiple levels of headings to organize your document
• Bullets, numbering, tables and quotations
• Images, screenshots, and emoticons
• Powerful mini-applications using macros
