When creating a new Epic i would like to set a default value for Epic Name & Summary. Possible?

Maximilian Floß January 19, 2023

In our Jira Project an automation is overwriting the Summary and the Epic Name whenever a new Epic is created. The problem is that the user has still to define a summary and a Epic Name in the create Screen which is very annoying.

Is it possible to avoid the situation that the user has to fill in the Summary & Epic Name field in the create Screen of an Epic? For example by defining a default value for the Summary.

Hello @Maximilian Floß

Are you working with Epics in a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? Look at the bottom of the navigation pane on the left for this information.

I think you must be working with a Company Managed project because you mentioned Epic Name and Summary, and Epic Name applies only to Company Managed projects.

In that case the only way you might be able to pre-fill these fields is through the use of a third party app. Jira does not natively offer a function to set a default value for either of those fields.

It looks like Adaptavist ScriptRunner Behaviours might be able to default the value for the Summary field. I haven't studied the documentation thoroughly to see if it would support setting the Epic Name.
