When creating a new issue, the assignee reverts to the reporter even when otherwise specified?

When I am creating new issues in Jira, I always specify 'unassigned' or assign a specific user for the Assignee field. In each scenario, the Assignee shows as me (the reporter). I am then able to remove myself and mark it as unassigned or assign to someone else without issue, so it doesn't appear to be a permissions problem. This has happened across multiple projects, and seems to be across all issue types as well.

I am the administrator for these projects, but I had a few other people try as well and had the same outcome - it would revert to themselves as the reporter of the issue.

Any ideas? I've looked through all the project settings, my role settings, etc and can't seem to get to the bottom of it.

Hi @Kristin Kellam

Welcome to the community!

From the problem description, check the following:

  • If your workflow includes a post-function during the create transition that modifies the assignee.
  • An Automation that may be changing the assignee value.

Best regards

Sam
